Obituary for Eileen Ostrove

Eileen Ostrove passed away suddenly on May 26, 2021. She was 94 years old. Wife of the late Edward Ostrove. Also predeceased by her son-in-law Craig Johns. Beloved mother of Nona Ostrove and Barbara Ostrove. Proud grandmother of Megan Johns and Amanda Corrigan (Matt), and great grandson Kent Corrigan.

Eileen lived her life to the fullest. Her adventures started early when she left home in Oklahoma at 17 to work as a ship fitter in Long Beach, CA to aid in the war effort. She returned to Kansas to finish high school and then followed her brother Ray to New York City where he was studying at Julliard. Wanting to travel the world and feeling “over the hill” at 23 she was talking to Navy recruiters when she met her future husband, Ed, at a dance.

Eileen and Ed raised their 2 daughters in New Jersey, teaching them the value of appreciating diversity by demonstrating that 2 people from different religions could blend their beliefs successfully. She was passionate about her family and there were frequent trips to visit them and historical sites across the country, including some memorable ones via station wagon. She was able to further fulfill her dream to travel with later trips to Europe, Israel and cruises with both family and friends.

Throughout her life Eileen held a variety of jobs including working at Lerner shops in New York City, teaching at a dance school, selling Fuller Brush and as an accounting clerk. Among her lifelong interests were reading, gardening, and music; including many years playing in hand bell choirs. She demonstrated her commitment to community service by volunteering into her 90’s. Eileen will be missed by her family and friends and especially by her community at the United Methodist Communities at Collingswood.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday June 5th from 9:30-11:00 AM at the Bradley Funeral Home, Rt. 73 & Evesham Rd., Marlton, NJ. Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM (service can be viewed at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/3257617665). Interment will be private, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eileen’s name to United Methodist Communities Foundation (www.umcommunities.org) or to the Nature Conservancy(https://www.nature.org/en-us/membership-and-giving/donate-to-our-mission/other-ways-to-give/honor-and-tribute-giving/)
