Obituary for Gene Loielo

Gene Loielo, 77, of Voorhees, NJ passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2021.

Beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Gene will be missed by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Lisa (Shad) and Dan; grandchildren, Austin and Gianna; step-children, Tony, Dan, Mike; step-grandchildren, Max, Ryan, Elise; siblings, Ralph, Barbara, Joyce, Carol (Steve); and dozens of nieces, nephews, friends. Gene was predeceased by his parents, Raffaele and Victoria; and siblings, Marie, Viv, Rae, Dolores, Gloria, and Rose.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Gene earned a featherweight boxing title prior to serving his country during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the US Army, Gene worked for 35 years as a research librarian for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He lived in several towns in South Jersey, including Palmyra and Cinnaminson. Gene enjoyed bowling, reading, music, playing cards, especially bridge, and Broadway shows. He was also an avid sports fan who loved his Eagles and Phillies.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation 9:30-11:00 AM and to the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Rd., Gibbsboro, NJ. Both will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021.
